'l' Walcheren Islanders Jog to Church

Allied planes bombed Walcheren's dikes in 1944 to
flood out Nazi garrisons commanding the approaches to
Antwerp. But the island largely escaped the 1953
flood, as the presence of a grown horse implies: many
farm animals drowned wherever the waters struck.
